Personal support from Germany

Left Germany? Get personal help with your pension refund paperwork.

If you worked in Germany and now live abroad, a refund of certain German statutory pension contributions may be possible. We provide personal, Germany-based support with the complete administrative process. We prepare and organise the required application documents and manage routine correspondence with Deutsche Rentenversicherung—from preparation and submission through the first official decision.

You do not have to manage German forms, letters and follow-up with DRV alone. Within our agreed administrative scope, we coordinate the documentation and routine correspondence for you and keep you informed in clear English or German.

Why the process can become complex

A German pension contribution refund is not decided by one simple rule. DRV may need to consider your nationality, current residence, contribution history, the date compulsory insurance ended, possible voluntary-insurance rights and insurance periods in other countries. The frequently mentioned 24-month and 60-month rules may be important, but they should not be applied in isolation.

The administrative work can also continue after the application is submitted. DRV may request additional documents, clarification of insurance periods, confirmation of personal details or properly completed payment information. These requests are commonly issued in German and may have to be answered from abroad.

This is where structured, Germany-based support can make a real difference. We organise the process into clear stages, prepare the relevant documents using the information you provide, keep track of ordinary correspondence and explain what is required next. If a question requires legal or regulated pension advice, we say so clearly and refer you to an appropriately qualified professional.

Could a refund be relevant?

General considerations can include nationality, current country of residence, whether compulsory insurance has ended, when the last relevant compulsory contribution was paid, whether voluntary German insurance is legally available, and German or foreign insurance periods.

Every application is an individual case

No two contribution-refund applications are exactly the same. The applicable requirements, necessary documents, responsible DRV office and processing time depend on the complete circumstances of the individual case.

Relevant factors may include your nationality, current country of residence, when and where you lived and worked, the type and duration of your employment, your German contribution record, compulsory or voluntary insurance, periods of study or research, self-employment, postings by an employer, and insurance or employment periods in other EU/EEA countries, Switzerland or countries with a social-security agreement with Germany.

A period outside Germany can therefore still be relevant to the German application. The frequently mentioned 24-month waiting period or 60-month threshold should never be treated as the only test.

What we do

We support international workers who previously contributed to Germany’s statutory pension-insurance system and now live abroad. Our role is to make the administrative process understandable, properly organised and easier to manage from another country.

A complex process needs a clear method. We combine careful document preparation, structured case coordination and personal communication from Germany. You always know what has been received, what is still needed and what happens next.

What we handle

Explain the practical content of the first decision, confirm the success-fee calculation and complete the agreed administrative service.

Estimate, not a guarantee

Allow approximately 6–12 weeks for a straightforward case after DRV receives the complete application package.

This is an indicative planning range based on cases supported to date, not a promise. More complex cases can take considerably longer. Every application is assessed individually. Your actual process may be shorter or considerably longer depending on the complexity of your German and international residence, work and insurance history.

We cannot accelerate DRV’s internal decision-making. What we can do is prepare the administrative package carefully, respond to ordinary requests within the agreed scope, follow up appropriately and keep you updated while the application is active.

We manage the documentation and routine DRV correspondence

Our support does not end when an application form has been completed. Within the agreed administrative scope, we remain your personal contact throughout the active application process until DRV issues its first official decision.

We organise the application documents, coordinate submission, monitor incoming correspondence, explain ordinary German-language letters, prepare factual responses using information approved by you, coordinate requested supporting documents and send appropriate status enquiries. You receive clear updates while we manage the administrative exchange with DRV.

If DRV sends a request for clarification or additional evidence, you will not be left to interpret and answer it alone.

From documents to DRV letters: We coordinate the administrative paperwork and routine correspondence through the first official decision, so you have one clear point of contact in Germany.

If a matter requires legal interpretation, an objection or representation in a dispute, we will explain that it falls outside our administrative service and recommend contacting DRV, a registered Rentenberater or a lawyer.

Clear, success-based pricing

You pay no upfront service fee. Our fee is due only after a refund has been paid to you by Deutsche Rentenversicherung.

About the service

Frequently asked questions

No. Nationality, residence, contribution history, voluntary-insurance rights and foreign insurance periods can all affect the decision. DRV makes the official determination.
In many cases, 24 calendar months must pass after relevant compulsory insurance ends. Later compulsory insurance can affect this period. The 24-month rule should not be treated as the only test.
With 60 German contribution months, a right to voluntary German pension insurance may exist for some nationalities. An early refund may then be unavailable. Fewer than 60 months does not automatically guarantee reimbursement.
For employees, reimbursement generally concerns the eligible employee-financed share of compulsory pension contributions. The employer-financed share is normally not paid to the employee. Only DRV can calculate and confirm the amount.
Yes, you may apply directly to Deutsche Rentenversicherung, and DRV does not charge an application-processing fee. Our service is optional. Clients pay us for personal administrative support.

Yes. Routine administrative correspondence with Deutsche Rentenversicherung is a central part of our service. Within the agreed scope, we coordinate the application documents, assist with submission, monitor ordinary correspondence, explain German-language letters, prepare factual replies based on information you approve, coordinate additional documents and send appropriate status enquiries until DRV issues its first official decision. If a matter requires legal advice, an objection or disputed representation, we will identify that boundary and recommend an appropriately qualified adviser.
